John R. Catron, 80, of Des Moines, IA and Fountain Valley, CA, passed away on May 1, 2004 at the Knoxville VA Medical Center of severe congestive heart failure.
John was born March 12, 1924 in Marshalltown, IA. He served our country in the Army Airforce during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. John was a well-known radio newsman with KIOA in the late 1950’s and 60’s. He was employed by Orville Lowe and Ruan Leasing as a sales and leasing agent. John spent five years with the Polk County sheriff’s department and was a licensed private detective in the State of Iowa. He was then a Vice President of Continental Western Insurance Company, later purchased by Northwest Insurance. John was also employed for 15 years as a building inspector for several California banks.
John is survived by his wife, Mary Catron; three sons, Mike and John Catron and Richard LemMon; a daughter, Patti Jo Holden; two grandsons, John and Gary Catron; a granddaughter, Becky Matykowski; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Catron and Jessie Catron Boyle; a step-father, Ed Boyle; and his wife, Pauline Catron.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Merle Hay Funeral Home with committal following at Merle Hay Mausoleum. His family will greet guests from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
