She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years. After graduating from the Teachers College, during WWII Eleanor answered the call of the US Government for school teachers and volunteered to move to Detroit, MI. Schools were short of teachers for the children of military families stationed in that area. Eleanor taught school during the day and worked evenings in a factory repurposed for wartime production. It was for working in the factory that Eleanor earned the title “Rosie the Riveter”. When she returned to Iowa she taught at Treadwell Elementary School a one-room school house. She later taught in both White Oak and Cambridge, IA. She loved teaching all subjects. On December 23, 1945, Eleanor married Raymond Robertson in Maxwell, IA. They were married for 46 years until Ray’s passing on December 4, 1991. Ray and Eleanor had one son Ronnie Robertson who was born in 1953. Eleanor had two grandchildren Lori Robertson (Jacobsen) and David Robertson. She had 3 great-grandchildren Kennedy and Grant Jacobsen and Embree Robertson. Ray and Eleanor ran a dry cleaning business in Maxwell, Iowa for many years. Eleanor worked in the book store at Faith Baptist Bible College for 13 years. She also worked seasonal for the Garst Seed Corn Company well past the age of retirement. Eleanor was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church and has been faithfully attending church there for over 70 years. She loved her church family and served in many areas with the Mission Board and Kids for Truth, two of her favorites.

Eleanor passed away on August 20, 2022, at 100 years old.
