Avis Eleanor (Sanderson) Richards, 88, of Waukee passed away peacefully on August 24, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Avis was born on June 9, 1934, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Rudolph (Duff) M. Sanderson and Helen Garman. The world lost a beloved mother. The world also lost a devoted friend of many people. She was continually selfless and sacrificed much to help others. She loved to play bridge. She was an avid reader. She was a member of Des Moines Women’s Club. Avis was proud to be a founding member of Walnut Hills United Methodist Church and continued worshiping there for the rest of her life. Avis is survived by her four children; Elizabeth, Paul, David, and Daniel. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, August 29 at 1:00 PM at Walnut Hills United Methodist Church, 12321 Hickman Road, Urbandale, Iowa.
