Joann K. Olson was born April 17, 1942, to Margaret Ina May Allot and Harry Olson in Des Moines, Iowa. She passed away August 2, 2022, in Ankeny, Iowa.

Joann worked as a nurse for 35 years starting with Mercy Hospital. Eventually, her passion and love for learning and nursing led her into teaching of Nursing for Mercy College. She was an instructor of Pediatrics and Community Medicine. Joann was dedicated to her profession, keeping her license even after retiring. She thrived on helping others by answering questions, helping people understand their medications, doing blood pressure checks, and serving as a Parish Nurse for St. Anne’s by the Fields Episcopal Church in Ankeny, where she was a member and served in several ministries there.

When Joann was not teaching, she was very involved with family and community volunteer work. In the community she was able to share her love of nursing and sewing. Joann helped many younger people with costumes for musicals, plays, and madrigal dinners. She was even known to help out a bride or two with dress repair under tight schedules.

Joann was an active member of Ankeny Area Quilters Ankeny Guild, American Sewing Guild, Polk City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She did volunteer service for Love Lunches and served as a Stephen Minister.

Joann was an avid traveler when time allowed. She had traveled to almost all 48 contiguous states and Alaska twice. She had traveled overseas to Rome, Germany, Switzerland, France, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Ireland.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony Nizzi of West Palm Beach, Fl, Christopher and his wife, Gwen Nizzi of Johnson Creek, Wi; grandchildren, Jessica, Aaron, Zachary and Giovanna Bednarski all of Janesville, Wi.; Stephani Nizzi of St. Louis and Victoria Nizzi of Neenah, Wi., and her many friends.

A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 5pm to 7 pm. A Memorial Service will be 10:30AM, Friday, August 26, 2022, at the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church 2110 W. 1st Street, Ankeny, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to the church in loving memory of, Joann.
