Obituary
Susan Lee Lawson Beaudette Barrett, 64, of West Des Moines, IA, passed away on July 21st, 2022 after a courageous fight with metastatic breast cancer. Susan passed away peacefully at home holding the hands of her husband and daughter.

Susan was born on March 20th, 1958, to Donald and Jean Lawson in Hunting Beach, CA. Susan graduated from Marina High School in 1976. Susan was active in softball, field hockey, and her church youth group, Nazarene Church in Midway City, CA.

Susan had a long career in medical records, coding, and health information management. Susan loved watching her daughter, Stephanie play softball. She was well known at the ball field as “whistle mom". Susan had a zest for life, a beautiful smile and infectious laugh that filled the room. No matter the circumstances she always stayed positive and left her sparkle whenever she went.

In 2005, Susan married her second husband, John Barrett. They shared 17 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling to England and Scotland as well as riding motorcycles and camping. Susan thoroughly enjoyed watching her granddaughter, Stevie, for the first two years.

Susan was predeceased by her mother Jean Lawson, father Donald Lawson, and stepmother Lorraine Lawson. She is survived by her husband John Barrett, daughter Stephanie (Brady) Flink, granddaughter Stevie Flink, and stepdaughter Emily Barrett.

A celebration of life will be held at the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge on August 2nd, 2022 at 6 pm. Friends and family are invited to come and celebrate this wonderful woman. In lieu of flowers, donations to Susan G. Komen can be made in Susan’s memory.
