Richard “Bing” Joseph Bengfort, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Arbor Springs Care Center in West Des Moines, IA. A Celebration of Life will be held at Iles Westover Funeral Home Saturday, July 30, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a lunchoen to follow at 1:00 pm.

Bing was born July 10, 1932, in Carroll, IA, to Ham and Mary (Dinges) Bengfort. He met the love of his life, Yvonne “Vonnie” Marcotte while attending Mankato State. The two married on May 28, 1960 in Blue Earth, MN. The couple enjoyed 58 years of marriage together. To this union was born a son, Colin, who was raised in Altoona, Iowa, where Bing and Vonnie made their home.

He served his country in the United States Army from Italy. He also had the opportunity to play football for the Army base team. After being honorably discharged, his former coach called him to play football for Mankato State. At Mankato State, Bing set an NCAA record for the longest punt that stood for many years. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Bing worked as a school teacher and coach for Southeast Polk High School for 40 plus years. He taught many subjects and was the boy's varsity baseball and golf coach. Bing was also on the football coaching staff.

He enjoyed many sports, primarily golfing. Playing golf was his main pastime. He started and taught the youth golf program and was the 1st president of the Terrace Hills Men's Golf Club. Bing loved spending time with Colin and the two enjoyed golfing together and even won a father-son golf tournament.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved spending quality time with family. Bing and Vonnie had many friends and they enjoyed spending time golfing, hosting dinner parties, and attending functions. You could say he never knew a stranger and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bing is survived by his son, Colin (Sara) Bengfort of Waukee, IA; two grandchildren, Hayden and Jace Bengfort; three sisters, Kathy Bliss, Judy Stricker and Linda Zastrow; he was preceded in death by his wife, Vonnie, brothers, Elmo, Jim and Cody Bengfort, sisters, Joanne Origer and Marilyn Feeney and his parents.
