Esther Moeckly was born on August 23, 1941 and passed away on June 25, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri to Wilbert and Ova (Davidson) Erisman and was the youngest of seven children.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd). A funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 1, 2022 at the Church of the Brethren at Ankeny (417 SE Grant St.) with Pastor Barbara Wise Lewczak officiating. Burial will be at Moeckly-Crocker Cemetery in Polk City, with luncheon to follow. The funeral will be livestreamed at the Church of Brethren at Ankeny Facebook page.

After spending her early years in Fairview, Missouri, Esther moved with her brother, Ethmer, to Iowa. She worked at a Bankers’ Life and attended Des Moines Valley Church of the Brethren where her brother was the pastor. She met Maurice Moeckly and they married on September 14, 1963. Esther assisted her husband on the dairy farm in Polk City, Iowa. They had four children: Natalie, Kent, Kevin, and Craig. She loved gardening and baking (and was well known for her Christmas caramels), loved attending her grandkids functions, and enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines and angels. Esther was a long-time member of Ankeny Church of the Brethren where she had served as a board member and Sunday school superintendent.

Esther was a gentle soul, a role model of loving tolerance, always willing to help others, represented all that is good in this world, and loved her family unconditionally. Esther was a blessing and her presence will be dearly missed. God has another angel.

Esther is survived by her husband, Maurice Moeckly; and children, Natalie (David) Bellis of Ankeny, Iowa, Kent (Melinda) Moeckly of Polk City, Iowa, Kevin (Nadia) Moeckly of Urbandale, Iowa, and Craig (Kristin) Moeckly of Lawrence, Kansas. She was the loving grandmother to Shawn Moeckly, Cody (Paige) Moeckly, Garrett (Kayla) Moeckly, Krystal Bellis, Ben Moeckly, Madeline Moeckly, Austin Moeckly, Lane Moeckly, Morgan Moeckly, Henry Moeckly; and great-grandmother to Audrey and Cash Moeckly. She is also survived by her brothers, Ethmer Erisman of Warrensburg, MO and Paul (Linda) Erisman of Franklin Grove, IL; brother-in-law, Don Elliott; and many nieces and nephews. Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Harvey and Hazel Moeckly; her siblings and spouses, Leota (Forrest) Gann, Fern Daniel (Dorothy), Dale (Frances and Elaine), Nancy Ruth Elliot; sister-in-law, Katherine Erisman; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Church of the Brethren at Ankeny.
