Phyllis Weil, 88, passed away, Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Stuart Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 Monday, July 11, at. St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday. Cremation will follow visitation and a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, July 12th at St. John’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Dallas Center.

Phyllis was the daughter of Daniel Gardiner, Jr. and Ila Dachenbach. She was born on January 31, 1934 in Williamson, IA, and attended school there until the family moved to Waukee. Phyllis graduated with the Waukee Class of 1952. She was married to Leo Weil on January 30, 1953.

Phyllis was an avid camper with her husband, and loved to fish and hunt mushrooms and wild asparagus. She was always active in sports in high school and for many years played softball with the Mrs. Adel team as a catcher.

Phyllis was a collector of different items, most notably her prized collection of “Bells” from the many places she visited with her husband, which included Scotland, Spain, Yugoslavia, England, Morocco, Puerto Rico, Canada, plus many US States. She also traveled frequent with local bank sponsored trips.

Besides raising a family, she worked locally in the grocery business and volunteered at the local food pantry,visited shut-in ladies, and volunteered at her church where she directed the funeral dinners for many years.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leo, her parents, her sister, Flora Slycord and brother, Daniel Gardiner, great-granddaughter Brianna Rae Weil. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Mary) Weil and Pat (Janette) Weil, both of Adel; five grandchildren, Dana (Dave) Zabel of West Des Moines, Mike R. (Tiffany) Weil of Waukee, Jessica Weil, John (Amanda) Weil, and Martin (Adriana) Weil, all of Adel; great grandchildren, Alyxx (Ryan), David and Dallon, of West Des Moines, Piper, Hayden, Leigha, Jamison, and Emmett, all of Adel; and great-great-grandchildren, Knox, Zephyr, and Layla of Waukee.

The family would like to thank the staff and caretakers of Stuart Community Care Center for their compassionate care provided to Phyllis over the last six years.
