Husein Smailbegovic, age 64, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at Parkridge Specialty Care in Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd).

Husein was born December 16, 1957, in Tesanj, Bosnia & Herzegovina, to Muharem and Pasa Smailbegovic (Beslagic). He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering. He worked for the Bosnian Railroad as an engineer and later became a Transportation and Regulation Officer for the DOT. Husein made the journey to America in 1999. A few short years later, he become an owner/operator of a semi trucking company, which he operated all over the United States until his diagnosis in late November.

Husein was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his grandchildren while telling the rest of the family jokes and stories. Husein was the kind of person who you could always lean on when you needed a shoulder and would always offer advice. Husein will be remembered for having a heart of gold, being a foodie and his love of fishing.

Husein is survived by his wife, Snezana; his sons, Adnan (Karla) and Almir (Brittney); and his grandchildren, Adian, Tatumn, Brecken and Nadia.
