With much sadness, we announce the passing of Hoang Viet Pham, 59, on Thursday, June 23, 2022. He was surrounded by his three children and wife of 34 years.
Hoang was born on April 27, 1963, in Saigon, Vietnam. He was the 4th of 5 children. In 1984, he met his wife and it was love at first sight. They married in 1987 and shortly after started a family. In 1993, Hoang, his wife, 4-year-old son, and his wife’s family of 4 immigrated to Norwalk, IA. Not speaking a single word of English, he began to build a new life to support his family, by never giving up and working hard. He sacrificed and overcame all adversity that came his way to provide an extraordinary life for his family.

Hoang was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His family meant everything to him. He was known for always putting his children first, and was happiest when the entire family was home playing cards, with the losers drinking shots of milk. He was the best at playing games, always one step ahead of everyone. You could never forget his contagious laugh that would fill the entire room when teasing his family for losing.

He is survived by his father,loving wife Hong Nguyen; 3 children; Duy (Amanda) Pham; Thao (Sean) Hickey; Hieu Pham; and new grandson Calvin Hickey. Hoang was preceded in death by his mother Phạm Thị Giáp.

Hoang was an intelligent, selfless, and resilient man. He will always be in our hearts and his memory will live on forever with us. When you miss him, take a look at his wife and kids, a piece of his love is in each of them.

To honor Hoang, a visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM, Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 735 19th St, West Des Moines. Funeral Mass will be held at 12 PM, Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, 618 E 18th St, Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
