Mary Susan Foust (Atkinson), 75, peacefully passed away on April 30, 2022 at Kavanagh House after a long courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, May 6, 2022 at Iles Westover Chapel. Private interment will be at Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, IA.

Mary Foust was born in Chillicothe, Missouri to George Franklin and Mary Beatrice (Bryant) Atkinson on October 5, 1946. She attended high school at St. Joseph's Academy in Chillicothe, MO. After high school she attended NW Missouri State College. Mary married John Foust on November 25, 1967 in Chillicothe, MO. From this union they had three sons David, Brian and Michael. They made their home in Des Moines, IA.

Mary was caring and loving as a mother, grandma, wife, and friend. Mary was a creative and imaginative person who would find ways to put her talents to use, whether it was restoring antiques, finding a good deal at the thrift store, decorating her home, tending to her garden, or joking with family and friends. Mary had a handful of business ventures, with her most successful being a small craft business which saw her creations distributed to gift stores throughout the Midwest. Mary’s home garden was admired by friends and neighbors, and photos of her garden were published in several magazines. Most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and going out with her friends.

Mary will be fondly remembered by her two sons, Brian (Cristiane) and Michael (Dorry) and her grandchildren, Amanda, Michael, Madelyn and Christopher. She was preceded in death by her infant son, David Foust; her husband John Foust; her parents, George and Mary Atkinson.

The Family would like to thank the caring professionals at Iowa Methodist Oncology department (Dr. Jawa), all the caring in-home nurses and staff at EveryStep Hospice along with all the angel nurses at Kavanagh House. We would also like to thank all of Mary's friends who helped support her during this courageous journey. Each and every one of you made her journey that much easier.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or a local food pantry. Please visit www.IlesCares.com for online condolences.
