Patricia "Pat" Ann (Goebel) Luhrs, 86, of Des Moines, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022. Pat graduated high school in Tripoli, Iowa, in 1954 after being a part of the first female high school wrestling team ever created in the state of Iowa, and received a degree in elementary education from Iowa State Teachers College in 1957. Pat met her late husband, James Luhrs, in the Geneso Township of Iowa in 1958 and began a family. She lived an active life working on their farm in Cedar Rapids in 1971, raising cattle and managing 60 acres of farmland while raising two young sons.

An expert chef, seamstress, artist and domestic engineer, Pat was the family support who held up the home effortlessly, and the jokes around the Luhrs' dinner table were legendary due to her keen sense of humor. Her favorite hobbies included household carpentry, painting, cooking and especially gardening. For most of her life, she maintained a large garden, harvesting and processing the produce for use in the wide variety of meals and desserts she fed to her family with love. Pat loved the outdoors and the native cultures of the Great Plains, and had a memorable spider and rock collection.

Pat is survived by her sisters, Judy (Herb) Herrly and Cyndy (Clint) Shoap; her sons, Brad (Aimee) and Mike Luhrs; her grandchildren, Kyran and Averee Luhrs; and many extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vincent and Kathryn Goebel; and her loving husband, James Luhrs.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 15, with a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel, Des Moines.
