Joanne Katherine Crowley
20 Mar 1932 - 01 Dec 2011

WADSWORTH -- Joanne Katherine Crowley, 79, of Wadsworth, who suffered through the antics of her nine children and her courageous battle with cancer, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 1st. She was at her home, surrounded by family.

Joanne was born March 20, 1932 at the height of the Great Depression to Mary Anne and Joseph Joynt. Her mother often told her what a blessing she was to her family. In retrospect, she'd look back at the circumstances facing her family, and the nation, and knew that having another mouth to feed was not always seen with such optimism and faith. Joanne shared her optimism and faith with all those around her. She told us to "Use your head" and inspired us be our best.

Joanne graduated from Clark College with a degree in mathematics. She fell in love with and married Jerry Crowley in Des Moines. Together they raised a large family, supporting the economy and education with over 32 years of college tuition! After helping her own kids learn math, she started teaching calculus and statistics at Wayne College.

Joanne and Jerry were fantastic supporters of the community, especially the local youth. Joanne was a founder of Breakpoint after school programs in Wadsworth, past President of the Ohio Head Injury Association for nearly a decade, and strong supporter of Our Lady of the Elms lecture series. She was active with Boy Scouts, and CYO Camp Christopher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joseph; and her adoring husband, Jerry. She is survived by her brothers, Robert (Lorraine) and David (Marge); her children, Colleen (Bruce Farley), Joe (Rose), Tom (Shereen), Brian, Matt, Steve (Barb), Mary (Bryan Doty), Mark (Jennifer), Bill (Jen); grandchildren, Sarah (Tony), Rebecca (Perry), Theresa, Claire, Tom, Martin, Vincent, Jarred, Jon, David, Jake, James, Zachery, Matthew, Curtis, Liam, Bridget, Kimberlie, Evan, Noah; great- grandchildren, Ianna, Savion and D'Maryus.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Sunday at the Hilliard-Rospert Funeral Home, 174 North Lyman Street, Wadsworth and a prayer service at 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1263 Shannon Avenue, Barberton, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Robert Jackson, Celebrant. Internment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Ohio Brain Injury Association, 855 Grandview Ave., Ste 225, Columbus, OH 43215 or Prince of Peace Capital Campaign, 1263 Shannon Avenue, Barberton, OH 44203.

Her children want to thank Dr. Payne, Hospice, and their staff.

"Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."
