Janet Kathryn Hedberg, 87, of Des Moines, IA passed away gracefully at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines on January 7, 2022.

Janet was born November 25, 1934, in Radcliffe, IA, daughter of Augustus Garland Terry and Mary Emma (Hoag) Terry. She received her education in Radcliffe, graduating in 1952. She continued her education at the University of Iowa School of Nursing, obtaining her Registered Nursing Degree.

Janet married Arthur Hedberg on August 13, 1955, and they made their home in Des Moines. She worked as a Registered Nurse for Lutheran Hospital before taking the time to raise her family.

Janet loved spending time with her family and hosting family gatherings. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, sewing, cooking and baking and loved having the grandchildren over to make gingerbread houses. She enjoyed gifting her handmade creations such as quilts, sweaters and Christmas stockings to family and friends. She was a member of The Des Moines Area Quilters Guild.

Janet was musically inclined and shared that love of the arts with her children as they grew up. She also helped her husband in his involvement with the Democratic Party and hosted many coffees over the years. Janet enjoyed her volunteer work and loved going to Blank Children’s Hospital to rock babies.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Art, son Christopher, eight brothers and sisters, Virginia, Christine, William, Robert, Dixon, Paul, Mary and Barbara.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Eric (Carolyn) Hedberg of Pleasant Hill, Mark (Amy) Hedberg of Des Moines, Kathryn (Randy) Ramaekers of Windsor Heights and Mary Ellen Hedberg of Des Moines, daughter-in-law Nancy Hedberg, 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to The University of Iowa Center for Advancement, Hope Ministries and The Arc of Iowa.
