Velma Owens, 89, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on February 8, 2022. A visitation will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home from 10 to 11 AM on February 19, 2022, with a memorial service starting at 11. Burial will follow at Polk City Cemetery.

Velma Marie Scott Owens was born in Union County at Shannon City, IA on November 30, 1932, to Roscoe and Bertha Scott. On April 13, 1952, she was married to Thomas L. Owens. To this union, three children were born, Coleen, Patrick, and David. She and her family moved to Polk City in February of 1956 from Afton, IA where they had been farming.

Velma was a charter member of the Polk City United Methodist Church and a member of the Polk City American Legion Auxiliary. She worked as a bookkeeper for Hobart Sales and Service for 24 years and retired in 1994.

Velma was preceded in death by her longtime companion, Gerry Wilson; husband, Tom Owens; infant son, David; loving daughter, Coleen (Virgil) Danielson; brothers, Donny (Belva) Scott, Johnny (Wanda) Scott, Clayton (Irene) Scott, and Calvin (Ava) Scott; sisters, Bernita (John) Roberts, Jaunita (Francis) Bebout, and Ethel; and sisters-in-law, Ferne Ross and Shirley Liles.

Velma is survived by her brother, Bob (Betty) Scott; son, Pat Owens; grandchildren, Dylan Danielson, Dawn (Greg) Hockemeyer, Thomas Owens, and Morgan See; great-grandchildren, Ray Danielson, Katelyn Hockemeyer, Mikaya See, and Hunter See; and numerous nieces and nephews.
