Marilyn Emma Limke, 90, peacefully passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, at home, surrounded by her loving family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2021, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends from 9 - 10 a.m. Cremation will follow services and private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Marilyn was born February 3, 1931, in Red Oak, IA, to Emil and Emma (Swanson) Peterson. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1948 and received her teaching certificate from Simpson College. She then taught in a one room school house before moving to Des Moines. Marilyn married Gerald Limke on November 23, 1952, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. They enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling and watching Jeopardy! Her favorite pastimes were her grandchildren, playing bridge with “the girls”, and gardening.

Marilyn was a homemaker, an amazing cook, and Mom to her five children. She is known for her homemade crescent rolls that the family enjoyed at the holidays. Her passion was playing bridge, she never met a stranger, and was great at remembering names. She truly enjoyed getting to know people.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Richard Limke, her parents, Emil John and Emma Otelia Sophia Swanson Peterson; sisters, Irene Carlson, Helen Hoffman, Shirley “Jean” Kerr, and Phyllis Franklin; and her brothers, Vernon, Donald, Maurice, and Kenneth Peterson. She is survived by her five children; Susan (Hugh) Oler, Sheryl (Chris) Bakkie, Gerald II, John (Amber) Limke, and Kathy (Todd) Anderson; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, at Iles Westover Chapel, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Hospital and the wonderful care provided by St. Croix Hospice Services. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the American Cancer Society, or St. Croix Hospice Services. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
