Theodore John Wacht, age 70, passed away on January 31, 2022 at EveryStep Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Theodore (Ted) was born in 1951 to Robert and Leota Wacht of Adel, Iowa. Ted spent the majority if his life in Urbandale and graduated from Urbandale High School in 1971. Ted went to work for the Urbandale Athletic Department in 1985 and worked there until retired in 2013. During his years at Urbandale he was the assistant to the athletic director; kept the official scorebook for varsity girls’ basketball for many years; coached junior high girls’ basketball, softball, and volleyball; and was an avid J-Hawk fan and supporter. Ted worked for the IGHSAU at the girls’ state basketball tournament for as an official scorebook keeper. Prior to retirement Ted kept the official scorebook for the Drake men’s’ basketball team as well. The Urbandale J-Hawks, the Drake Bulldogs, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Oakland Raiders, and the Green Bay Packers—Ted was fan of them all.

Mostly Ted will be remembered as an avid fisherman that loved spending time on water and competing in bass fishing tournaments when he wasn’t just fishing for the pure joy of it. He cherished vacations with family at Lake Vermilion, Minnesota—one of his favorite fishing spots.

Ted is survived by his two brothers Bob (Jeanie) Wacht of Johnston and Bill (Connie) Wacht of Des Moines; his sister Janet Wacht of Urbandale; his niece Lori (Mike) Wilcox of Johnston, three nephews Tod Wacht of Des Moines, Troy (Sarah) Wacht of Des Moines, and Dillion McBride of West Des Moines; three great-nieces; and two great-nephews.

Ted was preceded in death by his father Robert Wacht, his mother Leota Wacht, and his niece Julie Ann Wacht.
