Janice Wright

Des Moines - Janice R Wright passed away peacefully on August 28, 2021, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa.

Visitation will be September 8, 2021, from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA, with her Memorial service following at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Janice, the daughter of Margaret (Stewart) Wright, was born January 23, 1937, in Melcher, IA. Janice attended the University of Iowa, then went to St. Anthony's College of Nursing, where she passed the National Examination for Medical Technologist of American Society of Clinical Pathology. To finish her degree, she graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a degree in Microbiology. She then worked in that field for 38 years. Janice retired in 2000. In retirement Janice volunteered for 10 years as an advocate for victims of violence for the 5th Judicial system, the Restorative Justice system of Iowa and the Criminal Justice Program at DMACC.

Janice is survived by her sister-in-law; Thayne Ireland, daughter, Brooke Ireland, son, Chad Ireland, his sons Max and Carter, Lou (Wright) Crouser, Lola (Wright) Plum, nieces, Joy Smith, Sandy Wilson, and Janon Johnson and their families and nephew Shane Wright, several great nieces and nephews as well.

She is preceded in death by her mother Margaret, brothers; James Wright, Gene Wright and Larry Ireland, nieces; Sabra Ireland and Connie (Wright) Hock.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to her family and will later be given to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville, Iowa.
