Bernie joined the Army on February 12, 1945 and served during World War II. Bernie was very proud of his four brothers serving at the same time and always had a picture to show everyone. Bernie had a passion for all sports, especially golf and bowling and he knew his way around a pool table. Friends and family always looked forward to sharing in his well-supplied candy stash. Bernie was a fraternal member of the Eagles for 23 years, the YEWS and Park Ave. Presbyterian Church. Bernie was excited and overwhelmed to have been selected by Casey’s General Stores for a Veteran’s Honor Flight trip to Washington, D.C. and a reunion with many of his military friends.
Bernie married Shirley (Erskin) Lane, March 7, 1954 and they had three wonderful children from the marriage, Rudy, Patty & Mark. Shirley passed on February 3, 1992.
