William "Bill" Raisch, 87, died Friday, December 30, 2011, at Veterans Administration Community Living Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo.

Bill was born in Ackley, Iowa to Fred and Cora (Frederick) Raisch. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Bill attended Iowa State University on the GI Bill and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI). Bill was an educator. He began his career as a teacher in Jefferson, Iowa and then after receiving his master's degree from Drake University became a principal at Monroe. He then went on to serve as Superintendent of Schools throughout Iowa including Walker, Prairie City, Charles City (Assistant Supt.), West Delaware (Manchester) and Van Meter School Districts. Bill was a member of Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge and a founding member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and chairman of the building committee.

Bill is survived by his children, Terry L. (Lance) Dreesman of Montezuma, William F. (Marsha) Raisch of Urbandale, Charles D. (Corrine) Raisch of Loveland, CO, Kevin P. (Saeng) Raisch of Gainesville, FL, Mark A. Raisch of St. Petersburg, FL and Paul C. (Maria) Raisch of El Paso, TX; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Orlyn Raisch, Donald Raisch, Shirley Christie, Betty VanKerckhove and Paul Raisch; and his beloved wife, Shirley E. (Kelvington) Raisch.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Westkirk Presbyterian Church. On line condolences may be made at IlesCares.com.
