Harold D. Cook, 78, passed away on March 19 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd, Clive, on Tuesday, March 24, at 1 p.m. with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 23, at the funeral home.

Harold was born June 23, 1930 to Earl and Vera Cook in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1948. He served in the US Army from 1953-1955 with SCARWAF, a special category the Army reassigned to the Air Force. He attended Iowa State College and Drake University. He worked at various manufacturing plants, including Western Tool, EDKO, and Fawn Engineering prior to starting his own business, Allied Engineering, in 1980. He was a supporter of radio station WOI and Iowa Public Television, was a Scout Master, and had belonged to the Optimist Club. He was an enthusiastic member of the Color Film Club. Harold was generous with his gift as a machinist, fixing numerous items that needed repair for friends. He enjoyed smoking meat and delighted in passing it out to relatives, friends, and neighbors.

He will be missed by JoAnne (Waddelow), his loving wife of 47 years; three sons, Ronald and wife, Glenda, Edward and wife, Caroline, and Russell; five grandchildren; a brother, William and wife, Laura; sister-in-law, Betty; three cousins; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Albert. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or American Diabetes Association and received at the funeral home.
