Dolores was born in Graceville, MN and lived in the Des Moines area since 1948, the last several years at Deerfield Community in Urbandale. She married John Patrick Gaffney on May 16, 1942. Dolores and John were a great team as husband, wife and parents.

Dolores was born into a family where faith, family, and friends were the central focus. She carried this on as she raised her own family. Dolores taught everyone by example, through encouraging words and generosity. She was an active volunteer at Bishop Drumm, Catholic Women's League, Mercy Hospital Guild, St. Boniface, Sacred Heart and St. John's Catholic Churches. She enjoyed all outdoor activities, from gardening, fishing, traveling, swimming, feeding the birds to walking the beach or nature trails. Dolores loved participating in her children's sporting activities, serving as a coach and cheerleader. She was an incredible cook, always making time for home-cooked meals and family time. Dolores was famous for her spaghetti, apple pies, and lemon pies. She will be remembered for her love of family golf time, especially watching her children and grandchildren play. Her last earthly golf outing with family was on December 2, 2011, at Willow Creek.

Dolores is survived by her children, Kathleen (Bernie) Budzik of Michigan City, IN, Barb (Dan) Renda of San Antonio, TX, John (Britt) Gaffney, and Tom (Janet) Gaffney, both of Bovey, MN, Dave (Connie) Gaffney of Grimes, and Lori (Greg) Burmeister of Clive; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Florence Griffin of Benson, MN and Bonnie (Virgil) Lotzer of Sisseton, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, her siblings, Bud Hervert, Elaine Steirwalt and Marge Frisch, and three grandchildren, John and Todd Renda, and Matthew Gaffney.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Church in Waukee. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Catholic Church, Animal Rescue League of Iowa or to the family for a memorial at Willow Creek Golf Course.

Dolores touched many lives and will be missed by all.
