Alvie Grimes, 83, passed away at his home Wednesday, February 1, 2012.

Alvie was born January 7, 1929 to Samuel and Ruth Grimes. He retired from Armstrong Tire after 35 years of service and was a volunteer firefighter in Missouri for 14 years. Alvie was a member of Faith Independent Assembly of God Church and United Rubber Workers Union Local 164. He enjoyed fishing, which was a part of all family vacations, hunting and spending time with his grandkids. He especially enjoyed yearly family picnics and fish fries with all of his family and friends. Alvie was a great story teller. He enjoyed going to church and attending numerous church functions.

Alvie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Blanche; daughter, Judy (Dan) Fisher; sons, Jerry (Sue) Grimes, Richard (Lillian) Grimes and Jim Grimes; eleven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his beloved dog, Brandy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ruth; daughter, Pat; sons, Bobby and Kenny; granddaughter, Danielle; sisters, Effie, Jean, Opal, Sally and Irene; and his brothers, Cliff, Glen and Richard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Faith Independent Assembly of God Church, 6001 SW 14th St. with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
