Dean Christensen, 65, passed away with his family beside him following a year long battle with lung cancer, on February 2, 2012 at home in Windsor Heights, Iowa.

His wishes were for cremation and no formal services for burial or visitation. A family celebration of his life will be planned for a later date.

Dean was born and lived his entire life in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born February 16, 1946 to Jane and Lyle Christensen. He will be fondly remembered for his enjoyment of his family, nature, music, cars, pets, Cleveland Indians baseball and going to Chuck's for pizza and onion rings.

Survivors include his wife, Joan, his daughter Deana (Jay) Meyer, his father Lyle and sister Diana Kay (Monte) Hammond. He also has a large extended family of Caswell's in Iowa, Kansas, and Nebraska. Dean was preceded in death by his mother Jane and his parents-in-law Lloyd and Mary Caswell, formerly of Wick, Iowa.

His family wishes to thank the Stoddard Cancer Center medical team of Dr. Mark Westberg, Jan Lovett, RN, Dr. Robert Isaak, Krystal Broich, RN, Carissa Thompson, RN and supporting staff. Mercy Arthritis Center, Dr. Mark Burdt, and Kim Stearns, RN. HCI Metro Team, Karol Fortune, RN. Richards Pharmacy (Mark). Also, a special thanks to Patty McMichael, RN. The compassion, care and kindness during his illness have been deeply appreciated.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family to be used at a later date in Dean's memory.
