MARCH 2, 1937 – FEBRUARY 1, 2012

Karl Reece Elliott, 74, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center following a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Karl was born in Plattsmouth, NE on March 2, 1937. He was the son of Earl and Irene Schlutz. He graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1955. He married Francine Arthur on September 19th 1958.

Karl worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission until 1977. He retired after 18 years of service with Polk County Engineer’s Office. He was a 50 year member of the Columbus City Lodge #107 and 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Legion Post #100, Columbus Junction, IA.

Karl and Francine enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas with friends from around the country. He looked forward to his next cribbage game, following the Hawkeyes, Cubs and his daily visits to town for coffee with longtime friends. His wisdom and sense of humor will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Pallister of Wapello, IA. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Francine; sons, David Elliott of Nevada, IA, and Doug and Glenda (Trask) Elliott of Polk City, IA; four grandchildren, Craig, Kelly, Molly, and Spencer Elliott; brothers, Larry (Susie) Elliott of Decatur, IN and Frank Elliott of Newton, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. 1st St., with visitation one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for a donation to Karl’s favorite charities. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register 02 Feb 2012.
