J. Daniel Priest, 88, died Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Mitchell Village Care Center. He was born December 12, 1923 to Earl and Irene Priest in Shannon City, Iowa.

He attended school in Union County and received his Bachelor and Master degrees from Drake University. His career included being a teacher at Thayer and a principal with Redfield and Des Moines Schools. He married Charlotte Roeder of Thayer and they lived in Union County-Redfield and then on their acreage west of Runnells. His hobbies were farming, flying small airplanes and fishing in his pond. At an early age, Dan accepted the teachings of Jesus Christ and chose Christian Fellowship as his way of life.

Daniel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlotte; son, Duane (Mary) Priest of Runnells; daughter-in-law, Joanne Priest of Topeka, KS; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers; and three sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Larry Priest.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
