Dorothy was born May 9, 1922, in Story City, IA to Carl and Jeanette Peterson joining two brothers, Jennings and Herbert. A third brother, Kenneth, was born five years later.

Dorothy graduated from North High School in 1940 and worked in the offices of A&P Foodstores. She also worked at the Des Moines Register and Tribune, where she met her future husband, George Lundberg, an apprentice printer and enlisted Navy Seabee. The couple was married June 24, 1944, while George was on leave. After discharge in 1945 they went on to start their family, having two sons, John and Jim.

In 1949 the family moved from Des Moines to Clive, Iowa. Dorothy was involved in much of the "behind the scenes" work for the City of Clive where George served as mayor and Justice of the Peace as well as running the "Lundberg General Store" at 86th and University. In addition to assisting George and raising a family, Dorothy worked as a supervisor in the pension department at Bankers Life, retiring after 20 years of service.

George and Dorothy moved to their farm in Spirit Lake, IA in 1986 with their winters spent in Cathedral City, CA. Following George's death in 2008, Dorothy returned to Iowa residing at McCauley Terrace Apartments in Johnston where she made many wonderful friends and enjoyed numerous activities. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three great-grandsons; and her husband, George. Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her sons, John (Jill) Lundberg, Johnston, and Jim Lundberg, Grass Valley, CA; four grandchildren, Brandi (Troy) Wright, Matt (Kerri) Lundberg, Jeanette (Matt) Debiak, and Katie (Hugo) Osario; and five great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Porsche, Colton, Chloe, and Roselee; plus her sister-in-law, Sonja Peterson and many nieces and nephews.
