Dwight Powell Marshall
1938-2011
Des Moines

Dwight Powell Marshall, 73, of Des Moines passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 after a long courageous battle with renal cancer. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St. A celebration of life will be Monday, April 4, at 10 a.m. at Park Avenue Christian Church, 3219 S.W. 9th St., Des Moines, IA. Internment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines following the services.

Dwight was born on March 2, 1938 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Frank and Alberta Marshall. He grew up in West Des Moines and graduated with the Valley Tigers class of '55. Dwight worked for 45 years as a pressman for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. He was very active at Park Avenue Christian Church as an Elder, working in the sound booth and wherever help was needed.

After retirement, Dwight decided to take up golf, and joined an investment club with other Register retirees. He also helped others file their taxes through the AARP. Dwight was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. He loved spending time with his many grandchildren, by attending sporting events, baby-sitting, going to the science center, or just enjoying one-on-one time with them.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Grace Marshall; children Mike (Shannon Holz) of West Des Moines, IA; Gary (Kendra) of Waukee, IA; Joe (Lisa) of Granger, IA; Jon McCart (Shannon) of St. Augustine, FL; Kelli Talcott (Mike) of Gardner, KS; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Park Avenue Christian Church in loving memory of Dwight.
