Mitchell Burnham
1990-2012
Des MoinesMitchell Healy Burnham died Thursday, January, 12 from an unintentional drug overdose. Born February 6, 1990, he is survived by his mother, Anne K. Burnham; his father, Scott Burnham; grandparents, Don and Carolyn Prielipp, and numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and many, many friends both young and old and abroad who tried to help him stop the madness of his risky drug use.
Mitchell was well traveled from the age of 14 months on. Two years ago, he walked with his father to the base of Mt. Everest. He was able to share in his mother's good work in the Peace Corps in St. Kitts last year. Preceding that at eight years old, he traveled with his mother and father to Africa, India, Nepal, and at eleven to Chile, Brazil, and Peru. He made beautiful glass beads, loved children and had a kind heart. Polite and thoughtful, he was loved by many people whose lives he touched. Mitchell graduated from Roosevelt High school and attended college for a time in California.
According to those that were there around the time he died, he was singing Summer Breeze when he lay down and slipped away. He was comfortable, and not in pain when he rode that summer breeze to the other side where he is free of all pain and suffering, a shining light. We all will miss him.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012, at the Unitarian Church, 1800 Bell Ave., Des Moines, IA at 6 p.m., with a potluck reception to follow at the church.
