Eleanor R. Newell was born October 24, 1915 in Des Moines to John and Ida Marie (Ekdahl) Burgeson. She passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Sunny View Care Center.

Eleanor was a graduate of East High School and attended Drake University, where she was a "Drake Beauty". She had an administrative career with Employers Mutual Co. and PEO Executive Offices. Eleanor was a member of Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, Rainbow Society, Delta Gamma Sorority, PEO Chapter GH, East High Alumni and Order of Eastern Star.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Donald R. (June) Newell; daughter, Nancy Newell Stiles; grandchildren, Daniel (Ginny) Newell; Jonathan Stiles and Naiyana Stiles; great-grandchildren, Clarissa, James, Samuel and David; and many other extended family members in the United States and Sweden. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald L. Newell; and brothers, Clarence, Elmer, and Floyd Burgeson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church, 511 Des Moines St. followed by burial at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
