Catherine "Kitty" Huyette (Rachel Catherine Huyette), 92, died February 6, 2012, at Edgewater Retirement Community in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Kitty was born June 24, 1919, in Seattle, Washington, the daughter of James C. and Mary Augusta (Wolf) Peden. She graduated from Clarkston High School in 1937. Kitty was united in marriage to Franklin H. Huyette on Nov. 29, 1940, in Trail, British Columbia.

Kitty's passion in life was raising her children. She was a wonderful cook and loved having all the kids around the dinner table during the holidays. She was an excellent bridge player and was known for her terrific sense of humor.

Kitty and Frank raised their six children in Bettendorf, Iowa. After Frank retired from the Alcoa Davenport Works in 1975, they moved to Boise, Idaho, where they resided for 21 years. Kitty and Frank moved to Des Moines in 1996, to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Barb.

Kitty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franklin, in 2004, and her brother, David Peden.

Kitty is survived by her six children: Gregory F. (Debbie) Huyette, Agoura Hills, CA, David W. (Summer) Huyette, Geneva, Switzerland, Steven R. (Barbara) Huyette, Des Moines, Iowa, Marcia F. Huyette, Cape Cod, MA, Michael J. (Kelly) Huyette, Murray, UT, and Lori C. Huyette of Denver, CO; and grandchildren: Erika (Huyette) Benadom, Sasha Huyette, Scott Huyette, Honor Huyette, David R. Huyette, Lisa (Huyette) Smith, Genevieve Gallagher, Tyler Huyette, and Tiffany Huyette; and great-grandchildren: Samantha and Alexandra Benadom, Logan Huyette, and Cameron Smith.

Mom, you have been the greatest Mom, and all your children are your gift to the world.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 11, 1:00 P.M. at Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Ave, Des Moines. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. at Dunn's following the visitation.

Kitty's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Wesley Acres Austin Center, Des Moines, and the Aster Neighborhood at Edgewater Retirement Community, West Des Moines, for the tender loving care they gave Kitty. They especially want to thank Melissa, Casey, Heather, Halle, Tiffany, Iretta, Sarah, Laura, and Lois. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Edgewater Good Samaritan Fund.
