Resided in Des Moines, IAThomas Joseph Maudsley, 75, passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center, following a courageous battle with multiple health issues. Tom was born the son of Francis and Celestine (O'Brien) Maudsley on October 27, 1936 in Anamosa, Iowa where he grew up. Tom received his bachelor degree from Loras College and then attended Drake University. He served in the National Guard in Cedar Rapids. Tom lived in the Des Moines area since 1970. He retired after 38 years of service, from the State of Iowa Department of Human Services as Director of Personnel and Training.
Tom was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church and a friend of Bill W. for 29 years. He was a devoted fan of Dowling High School athletics, an avid golfer and enjoyed gambling and playing cards with his friends.
Tom is survived by his devoted partner of 15 years, Mary Marshall; son, Clancy Maudsley and his children, Emma and Sam; two daughters, Megan Nelson and Sarah Bolten and her children Jacob and Jessie; two sisters, Jane Ortner (Dale) and Kathryn Beisell (Earl); former wife and friend, Kathy Sparks and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, T.J. Maudsley in 1995, his parents; and sisters, Ellen Cavanaugh and Frances Brady.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 20 at Iles Funeral Homes – Westover Chapel, with a Vigil service beginning at 7. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 21 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Private burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Anamosa. Memorials may be made to St. Theresa's Catholic Church or to his family.
