Another Good Man Gone.
Robert S. Finkbine died at his home in Des Moines on Monday last, aged seventy-three years. And who was Robert S. Finkbine? The man who superintended the construction of the state capital of Iowa; who had the disposition of nearly three millions of dollars: and never a penny stuck to his fingers,. He never permitted a man, contractor or otherwise, at work for the state, to acquire a dishonest penny. Other state houses, county houses and city halls have been built with thousands upon thousands of dollars of steals in them: but thanks to the rugged integrity of Robert S. Finkbine, joined to great capacity, when our capitol was finished there was never even a suspicion that it was attended with fraud. So great was his fidelity and integrity that it would be a most proper thing to put a life-size statue of the man upon the capital grounds and on the statue below could be written with perfect truth "Robert Finkbine, an honest man.”

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Woodland Cemetery and was born July 9, 1828 and died July 8, 1901.
