Ronald George McAtee, 91, passed from this life on Thursday, March 10, 2005 at the assisted living home, located at 3801 Grand Avenue, in Des Moines. A memorial service to honor Ronald's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, at Westover Funeral Home, in Des Moines. Private committal services took place on March 17, at New Sharon Friends Cemetery, near New Sharon.
Ronald was born the son of W.R. and Stella Wesman McAtee on April 7, 1913, at Laurens, IA. He was an army veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, actively serving from May 8, 1942, until he was honorably discharged on March 8, 1946 in Pennsylvania. On the next day, Ronald enlisted with the Reserves and served many years as Lieutenant Colonel, until his retirement. Ronald moved to Des Moines in 1941, where he married Lissie Pauline Hull on November 23, 1947. They made their home in West Des Moines.
Ronald was formerly employed with International Harvester as a District Service Representative for 25 years, until his retirement in 1973. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Reserve Officers Association and the Masonic Lodge #509 - Adelphi. For nearly 20 years, Ron and Pauline enjoyed spending their winters and vacationing in Hawaii.
He is survived by his one niece, one nephew and a host of friends and neighbors. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pauline on September 8, 1999; and one sister, Roberta Johnson.
