ARMSTRONG IS DEAD HERE
Frank Armstrong, 81, veteran Des Moines, advertising man died Sunday at Iowa Methodist Hospital. He had been ill with cancer.
Mr. Armstrong was account executive with Direct Advertisn Co. 424 E. Grand ave, for 20 years.
He had been an advertising agent for 45 years and was still active in the business until a few weeks before his death.
Ad Club
Mr. Armstrong was the sixth president of the Advertising Club of Des Moines, serving in 1913. In 1950 he was made an honorary life member of the club.
Born in Butlerville, Ind., Mr. Armstrong came to Des Moines at the age of 6. He was a reporter and later city editor of the old Des Moines Daily Capital before going into the advertising business.
An advertising textbook written by Mr. Armstrong is used in many business colleges.
He was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church. Mr. Armstrong and his wife would h.ve been married 60 years June 4.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn's Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Glendale mausoleum.
Pallbearers
Pallbearers will be Frank T. Carroll, Clarence Kirtley, A. B. Chambers. Lowell Nicholas, Dick M. Vawter and G. Dan Frey, all past presidents of the Ad Club.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clifford DePuy, Wilfred Woods, R. Murray Goodman and J. Woodrow Beard, also Ad Club past presidents.
Mr. Armstrong is sirvived by his wife; a son, B. G. Armstrong of Longview, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Bertram C. Brown of Indianola, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
