In the Midst of Life—Death!
The swiftness with which death comes to not a few is noticeable elsewhere as well as in Decorah lately. In one mail, on Tuesday, we note that at LeClair, near Davenport, on the 20th, Mrs. John Elliott, a prominent citizen and a resident there for fifty years, while entertaining friends at dinner dropped dead with apoplexy. Also that in East Des Moines, H. N. Hansen, a blacksmith, rose from his chair about 5 o’clock Sunday evening, saying, “Well, let’s eat supper.” Half way across the room he dropped to the floor, unconscious, and two hours later died. What is the matter? Are we living too swiftly? In none of these cases, locally, that have come to our enforced attention, is there such an indication.
