Peninah W. Kirby was born August 28, 1841, in the state of Michigan, her parents being Stephen Kirby and Susan Gaylord Kirby. She moved to Iowa with her husband, Chas. W. Wood about 1870 and settled in Des Moines, where she resided until the time of her removal to Colfax in 1892 with her son, Harry W. Wood, with whom she has since made her home.
She was the mother of three sons, two of whom survive her, Herbert P. Wood, of Spokane, Wash., and Harry W. Wood of this city. She was converted and joined the Baptist church early in life, to which she was greatly devoted until the end came.
The funeral services were held at the Baptist church on Friday afternoon at 1:30. The services were in charge of Morgan Jones and the sermon was delivered by the Rev. E. G. Williams of the Presbyterian church.
Interment was made in Woodland cemetery, Des Moines, on Saturday.
