Paul Schwartztrauber, 81, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Paul was born in Des Moines, the son of Edgar and Lillian Marie Schwartztrauber. He was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Paul made and delivered caskets for the Root Casket Company, worked for Brady Motor Freight and as a self-employed carpenter, and then worked in the Des Moines School system as a janitor for 18 years, until retiring in 1993. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, ice skating, camping, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jackie of Des Moines; two daughters, Deb Killian of Urbandale and Pam Schwartztrauber of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Shawn (Bridget) Green of Des Moines and Victoria Killian of Urbandale and two great-grandchildren, Mercedes and Myles Green.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McLaren's Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to Paul's family. ~ The Des Moines (IA) Register, Sun 26 Feb 2018.
