In 1876 he was united in marriage to Sarah Taylor. To this union were born seven children, five girls and two boys. All living except youngest son who died at the age of 22. This union was severed by the death of his wife in November 1910. He was again married to Mary E. Stall, of Fennville, Mich., April 17, 1914. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors and friends. He was a member of the Masonic Polar Star, LeGrande, Iowa.

Asher, of Fennville, Mich.; five daughters, Frances Houghkirk, Fennville, Mich., Bessie Jackson, Toledo, Iowa; Ellen Hibbs, Osage, Canada; Adah Morgan and Ivah Jones, Colfax, Iowa; one stepson, Ray Stall, Fennville, Mich., and nineteen grandchildren. After which the body was brought to Mitchellville and placed beside his wife.
Short services were held at the cemetery by Rev. Wikoff, pastor of the Christian church of Colfax with singing by quartet composed of Mesdames Copeland and Robinson and Iden Scarborough and Frank Stouffer.
Jesus while our hearts are bleeding O’er the spoils that death has won, We would at this time solemn meeting Calmly say, “Thy will be done.”
