Kathleen Marie "Kathy" Long, 69, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, while enjoying retirement while vacationing in Italy with her great friend and family member, Carol Bauer. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, where a rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 14, at the church in Granger. A private family committal service will take place at a later date at Beaver Catholic Cemetery, rural Granger.

Kathy was born the daughter of John and Mary (Battani) Sertich on January 26, 1943 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, but grew up in Granger, Iowa. During her adult life, Kathy raised her own family in Ankeny. She retired from Principal Financial Group's Pension Department in March of this year. Kathy was first and foremost about family. She never took any one thing too seriously while making the most of any situation. Kathy would want everyone to know she was a devout Iowa Hawkeye fan.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons, Frank (Krista) Long and Curt (Cari) Long; brother, John Sertich; sisters, Barbara Sertich, Georgie Neese and Camille Sertich; three granddaughters, Kobie, Tatum and Marley; and several nieces and nephews.
