Mr. Gene Roy Grossman, 78, died February 9, 2013 at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday, February 15, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. on Friday. Interment with military honors will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Gene was born December 4, 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa and was the son of John and Ruth Howell Grossman Sr. Mr. Grossman married Mable "Madge" Bowman in 1955. They later divorced. In 1965, he married JoAnn Loretta Johnson. She preceded him in death October 31, 2012.

He was a graduate of Des Moines Technical High School, and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Grossman worked in construction framing houses. He also worked at Dahl's Super Market and served for forty years at the United States Postal Service in Des Moines. He enjoyed drawing and painting, was a motorcycle enthusiast, and also took pride in his afghan hounds.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Grossman of Clive and David Grossman of Estherville; a daughter, Dee Ann Davidson of Des Moines; a step-daughter, Carla Johnson of Tucson, AZ.; two brothers, John Grossman Jr. of Tucson, AZ, and Karl Grossman of Glidden; two sisters, Beverly Caley of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Dianne Stevens of Burlington; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
