OBITUARY
Carleton D. "Bud" Beh, Jr., 85, died Monday, March 18, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Bud was born in Des Moines on December 13, 1927. He attended St. Augustin's School, Dowling High School, and graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in 1945. Bud graduated from Notre Dame in 1949, during his tenure Notre Dame never lost a football game. He then attended the University of Michigan Law School, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi and graduated in 1952.

Bud served in the U.S, Navy from 1952-1955, reaching the rank of Lieutenant. Upon completion of his military service, he married Mary Heald in Ann Arbor, Michigan on November 12, 1955. Bud started his career as a lawyer in Des Moines and subsequently joined the Carleton D. Beh Company, an investment banking firm specializing in public finance established by his father, Carleton D. Beh, where he rose to the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. The Carleton D. Beh Company was acquired by E. F. Hutton & Company in 1981 and Bud continued his investment banking career with E.F. Hutton and later with Piper Jaffray & Hopwood in Des Moines.

Active in civic and charitable works, Bud served for over 20 years as a member and later the President of the Board of Directors of Orchard Place in Des Moines and was an Honorary Director at the time of his death. He also served for many years as a financial advisor to the Adrian Dominican Sisters, in Adrian, Michigan, and to St. Catherine of Siena Parish–-the Newman Center at Drake University.

Bud is survived by his wife Mary, three children, James (Laura) of Washington, D.C., Katherine Beh Neas (Ralph Neas) of Bethesda, Maryland, and Thomas of New Orleans, Louisiana, and by four grandchildren.

He was a man of honor, strength and compassion with an engaging sense of humor.

A Visitation will be held at Iles Funeral Homes, Dunn's Chapel, 2121 Grand Avenue, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustin Catholic Church, 545 42nd Street in Des Moines, at 10:30 am on Friday, March 22, 2013. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
