Ardsley Burton Powley left this life on Saturday, February 2, 2013, in the loving care of Norwalk Nursing and Rehab and Iowa Hospice.

Burt was born on July 16, 1931 to Willhimine and Libertario Chiarello in Albany, NY, and was adopted later by his step-father, Ben Powley. He married Joan Kaperka in 1954, and moved to Des Moines, IA. He later married Geraldine Reed-Cole on June 17, 1997.

In his lifetime script, Burt played many parts. He was a little league baseball coach, an actor with the Des Moines Playhouse, and a DJ for KSO and KIOA in the 1960's and 1970's. He appeared as Frank N. Stein during live remotes and had a devoted fan club.

Burt worked for The Institute for Social and Economic Development, as a Small Business Advisor and later worked under Governor Terry Branstad, for the Iowa Department of Economic Development. He retired in 1997.

Burt liked traveling with his wife Gerrie; reading, playing Pinochle, Scrabble and watching Tiger Woods play golf. He was a member of the First Unitarian Church of Des Moines.

Survivors include his loving wife Gerrie of 15 years; his children, Thomas, Burton, Cynthia and Tracy; his step-children, Mark, Angele, Jennifer and Matthew (Kristin). He had seven grandchildren, Jakob, Lukas, Alisa, Gavin, Nathanial, Parker, Madeleine and a great-grandchild, Astoria.

Burt will be greatly missed by his wife, his family and the caring staff at Norwalk Nursing and Rehab, and Iowa Hospice and Southern Care.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father; his former wife; and his daughter, Donna.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, or the American Parkinson's Association.
