Betty McAfee, age 90, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Calvin Community.

Betty Marie McAfee, daughter of Bert and Gertrude (Holtz) Lewis, was born January 8, 1922 in Ankeny, Iowa. She moved to Des Moines at a young age and remained a life-long resident.

Betty graduated from North High School. Before her son was born she worked at Miller's Laundry in Des Moines. In later years, she volunteered at Living History Farms in West Des Moines.

Betty loved visiting with her friends and family, working in her garden, and taking care of her pets, her birds and other animals that visited her regularly in the back yard. She was a proud member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years. Betty was a loving wife and mother, and a good friend. She will be deeply missed.

Betty is survived by her son, Paul II and his wife Anda, and a grandson, Paul III, all living in Tempe, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Paul McAfee; and brother, Bill Lewis.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 28 at 2p.m. at Calvin Community.
