Urbandale

Gerald (Jerry) R. Hannam, 81, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on March 10, 2012 at Mercy Hospice, surrounded by family. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale.

Jerry was born October 5, 1930, in Melrose, Iowa. He was one of seven children born to Helen and James Hannam. On September 5, 1952, he married Norma Monaco, and started his family as he worked the family farm in Melrose. In 1964, Jerry and his family moved to Des Moines, where he sold real estate and was a commodities broker. He ended his career as the owner and operator of the Roman Lounge and the Urban Den.

Jerry will be remembered for his love of his family, his generosity to his friends, and his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Norma; sisters, Muriel (Charles) Helin, and Marsha (Ric) Rodemyer; daughters, Elise (Michael) Savage, Lori (Steve Gardner) Johnson, and Marla (Bill) Busa; and five grandchildren, Christine, Olivia, Shelley, James and Marla.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother James, and his sisters Marjorie Dixson, Shirley Olesen, and Pauline Lee.

A visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Home Thursday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. vigil service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to St. Pius X Catholic Church.
