Dale LaVerne Lint died Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 19, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, where a memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial of the cremated remains will be at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.
Dale was born July 17, 1923 at Camp Dodge Ridge, Johnston Station, Iowa. He was the son of a second generation Iowan whose family had immigrated to Iowa from Pennsylvania in the 1850's. Dale graduated from Grimes High School and became a local plumber working on windmills and pumps. He joined the Catholic Church through the outreach efforts of Father John Jay Gorman of Granger Assumption. Dale trained for the merchant Marines and then volunteered for the US Navy Submarine Corps in WWII. Upon his return from duty, he married Avo Jane(Betty) Wilkie, his high school sweetheart, in 1943 and they made their home in Grimes where they raised their four children.
Dale became a Local 33 union plumber and in the early 50's founded Dale Lint Plumbing & Heating which remained active until the late seventies. He will be remembered by friends and colleagues as a leader in his profession. Dale lived in Grimes all his life until the last seven years in Dallas Center.
Dale spent much of his later years in volunteer work and helping those he came in contact with. He was an avid bridge player. Dale was fond of telling stories and was always able to brighten the mood of those around him. He had a singing heart and a quick smile. We think he had a bit of the Irish in him. At least he believed so.
Dale was a loving husband and father to his family in a way that is hard to give too much credit for. He was always there for us. He will be loved, missed and cherished by those who knew him.
Dale is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Lint and four children, Diane(Carl)Baker, Judy Silkebaken, John(Pat)Lint and Sandy Lint; ten grandchildren, Ryan(Erin)Baker, Aimee Hingtgen, Derek Silkebaken, Jason(Amy)Silkebaken, Jonathon Silkebaken, Zachary Lint, Jordan(Amanda)Lint, Eva(Chris)Helps, Sadie Hildebrand and Jake(Nicole)Hildebrand; and eight great-grandchildren, Colin and Brenda Baker, Isabelle Hingtgen, Nick Bazzel and Kennedy Silkebaken, Jackson and Elsa Lint, and Easton Helps. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Marie, three brothers, Harold, Merle and Fred; and his sister, Irene Sonnenberg.
