Services for Charles Howard, 79, widely known Ankeny auctioneer and vice-president of the Ankeny State Bank, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ankeny Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Howard died of cancer Monday at his home, 501 Southlawn Drive in Ankeny, after a six week illness. Born at Saylorville, he had lived most of his life in the Ankeny area.

In addition to his work as an auctioneer for many years, Mr. Howard was in the real estate business. He had been vice-president and a director of the Ankeny State Bank since 1933 and previously was associated with the former Bank of Ankeny more than 20 years.

He was a member in Ankeny of the Methodist Church, Logic Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving are his widow, Alice; two sons, Dr. Richard of Kanawha and Addison of Norristown, PA.; four brothers, Ray M. of Dallas Center, Ben of Santa Ana, CA., and Archie and Edward of Ankeny; a sister, Mrs. Mae Adamson of Des Moines, and six grandchildren.
