Clarice Mae Mayer, 70, passed away peacefully from this life on May 18, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Saturday. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Clarice was born the daughter of Clarence and Stella Barrie Lund on November 23, 1939, in Hutchinson, MN. She married William F. "Bill" Mayer on November 28, 1959, in Hutchinson and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Kelly and Kim. Clarice and Bill lived in various cities in Iowa and Nebraska prior to moving to Johnston in 1968, where they made their home for over 40 years. She was formerly employed with Johnston Public Schools and Drake University. Clarice spent her life sharing her caring nature and wonderful sense of humor with all who had the joy of knowing her. She shined as an excellent cook and was the author of her very own published cookbook titled, "Cooking with Clarice". In addition to her love for cooking, Clarice enjoyed traveling with Bill, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. They were the "light of her life".

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Bill Mayer of Johnston; daughters, Kelly(Jeff)Jerome of Clive and Kim(Todd) Babich of West Des Moines; and four grandchildren, Casey, Josh, Brie and Drake. Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Clarence "Sonny" Lund.
