William "Bill" Kenneth West, died peacefully on March 1, 2010 at the age of 93 after a brief illness. He was born on August 20, 1916 in Monmouth, IL to John Newton and Bessie Irene West. He retired from Sidles Distributing of Des Moines after a long and successful career in sales. He served on the front line with the Army 292nd JASCO during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Bill was an avid golfer and worked at Willow Creek Golf Course during much of his retirement. Another interest was his personal computer, which he used to research and document his family history. He was known by family and friends for his excellent memory and sharp wit.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy Clare West of Johnston; daughter, Susan Eleanore Barnett of Houston, TX; sons, Don J. West of Des Moines, William Newton West of Urbandale and Robert Lee West of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 6 at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Road). Visitation will follow the service.
