James M. McCaughan, of Des Moines, died at his residence, Friday last, the funeral occurring Sunday afternoon. Mr. McCaughan was a son of Rev. C. T. McCaughan, of this city, and at the time of his death was something over 47 years of age. He married a daughter of Gen. J. R. Barcroft. He entered the practice of law and for a long time devoted attention to general trading and handling property. For two years his health had been failing, but it was only recently that any fear was entertained that he would not recover. In all the relations of life, Mr. McCaughan maintained a character above reproach.
